Surprised the 5090 is the only compelling offering, and even that is very meh. Sticking with 4090, but will be buying a 5090 FE to flip from Best Buy with my l33t hookup.
Ay yo, hook me up with a non-scalped one broski.

(I want to move my current GPU to my sim rig).

how you gonna have a sim rig and not challenge me to German group in ams2.
Well, my sim rig is missing a GPU at the moment, can’t challenge anyone to anything at the moment! (I also only have LMU, ACC, and iRacing [d racing licensed babeeeee] atm)

I like AC and AMS2, but I’m a big classic car racing nut. I love driving manuals and nothing beats AMS2 for older content. Hit me up when you get it going.

Speaking of, 5090's going to have lotteries or what? Might have to consider it an investment strategy

Like you’re going to scalp them? A $2k+ card isn’t much of an investment otherwise, it’s just a pointless splurge if you’re just gaming with it.

They still make some with low hash rate or has that moved on?

ethereum (the other main crypto) doesn't do compute for creating new coins anymore, and there are specialized chips that do far, far, far more efficient bitcoin mining than GPUs. Nobody buys GPUs anymore to mine crypto, fortunately.

unfortunately the big new trend is bullshit AI using GPUs, thats the biggest competitor now to gaming. Nvidia has giant racks of blackwell GPUs specialized for AI, and amazon/google/facebook/microsoft/etc have datacenters filled with those things and every new startup is trying to pretend its an AI startup.

There were ludicrous booths at CES that pretended to use AI to do the stupidest shit like "smart cribs", tons of smart cars with GPUs out the ass in them, AI washing machines, AI fridges, etc.

Half the chodes here did while i struggled to build a needed new comp. Might want to make $600 then spend it on a 4070ti

Gaming isn't a competitor to AI. Gaming is $3B for Nvidia, AI is $18.4B and growing at an alarming rate.

I know someone who shorted NVDA before the AI boom. FUCKING OUCH.

Fighting fomo like this is never gonna work out in your favor. AI will almost certainly be this generation's tech boom of the 90s.

And by that you mean eventually crash spectacularly but not after eating all the shorts.

Exactly what I mean. Nobody shorting the tech bubble in 94 made money.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 50 GPUs Expected to Have Limited Launch Availability; Team Green To "Nitpick" Retailer Distribution of SKUs

Getting NVIDIA's newest Blackwell consumer GPUs, especially the GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080, might be pretty tricky this time, at least around the launch period, since, according to Pokerclock, a prominent leaker at PC Games Hardware forum, Team Green might itself decide how to distribute stock among B2B retailers.

Along with this, not only will the first batch of RTX 50 SKUs have "limited availability," but this time, resellers and holders looking to get their hands on the initial batch of GPUs might be disappointed since NVIDIA has plans to combat them.

It is claimed that NVIDIA will, this time, decide which retailer will have the larger share of NVIDIA's RTX 50 GPUs. This could potentially mean that many famous stores out there might not have stock available on day one or even weeks after that, since availability at this time will be pretty confined. This would affect not only the average consumer, but also individuals who look to get their hands on new GPUs on launch dates to later sell at inflated prices and might need to find something else. The only way to access the RTX 50 GPUs might be through "digital-queue" systems, which yet again are influenced by automated bots.

Yeah, it was looking to only be a 1:1 dollar: perf increase from the 4090. They'll need a node shrink to get faster again at a similar price I think.
