Reminds me of the short story "Answer" from the early 1950's.

Fake Edit: By Fredric Brown 1954:
It's super short but contained within spoiler tags.

Answer

by Fredric Brown, 1954

Dwar Ev ceremoniously soldered the final connection with gold. The eyes of a dozen television cameras watched him and the sub-ether bore through the universe a dozen pictures of what he was doing.

He straightened and nodded to Dwar Reyn, then moved to a position beside the switch that would complete the contact when he threw it. The switch that would connect, all at once, all of the monster computing machines of all the populated planets in the universe – ninety-six billion planets – into the super-circuit that would connect them all into the one super-calculator, one cybernetics machine that would combine all the knowledge of all the galaxies.

Dwar Reyn spoke briefly to the watching and listening trillions. Then, after a moment’s silence, he said, “Now, Dwar Ev.”

Dwar Ev threw the switch. There was a mighty hum, the surge of power from ninety-six billion planets. Lights flashed and quieted along the miles-long panel.

Dwar Ev stepped back and drew a deep breath. “The honor of asking the first question is yours, Dwar Reyn.”

“Thank you,” said Dwar Reyn. “It shall be a question that no single cybernetics machine has been able to answer.”

He turned to face the machine. “Is there a God?”

The mighty voice answered without hesitation, without the clicking of single relay.

“Yes, now there is a God.”

Sudden fear flashed on the face of Dwar Ev. He leaped to grab the switch.

A bolt of lightning from the cloudless sky struck him down and fused the switch shut.

Lol. All this generation is showing me is how utterly spectacular AMD (and Intel to a lesser extent) have failed to keep this market healthy and interesting. Like Intel vs. AMD on the CPU side. It's all gotten so lame, man.

What I will say though, the 5090 FE looks like a really well engineered bit of kit - especially compared to the monstrosities that are the 3rd party cards. WTB EVGA...

What it shows (really reinforces) to me is, barring major (likely physically impossible) improvements in heat transfer technology, the real limiting factor is the lithography technology - something neither AMD, nor Nvidia, nor Intel (now) are actually developing on their own.

NVIDIA May Aim For Up To 16 Generated Frames With Multi-Frame Generation Tech In Future DLSS Technology

Even though multi-frame generation is already significantly ahead of frame generation, NVIDIA might aim for even a higher mark than it currently does. In an interview, NVIDIA showed interest in multiplying the FPS several times with future DLSS versions. However, it won't be that simple and might not be necessary as NVIDIA says that the current multi-frame generation is quite sufficient for gamers.

Still, NVIDIA says that they can achieve up to 16 frames per second with future DLSS MFG, and if that benefits the gamers, they may improve the MFG to such a level. As per the Q&A, it seems like NVIDIA wants to settle for three frames per second at the moment since it's already multiplying the FPS several times.

The multi-frame generation technique uses the latest transformer model and adds 'fake' frames to the gameplay to increase the smoothness of gameplay. By analyzing the scenes carefully through an advanced AI model, the current DLSS 4 technology is much more advanced than it was initially. NVIDIA has showcased the performance difference between native and DLSS 4 MFG scenarios, which can increase the fps by up to eight times.

If NVIDIA adds 16 fake frames in between the original ones, it might be just too much and may introduce weird AI artifacts, distortions, or anomalies to the visuals. Also, fake frames still won't be able to compete with the quality of original frames and won't offer a similar smooth performance. Three fake frames look quite sufficient for now, but of course, the future of DLSS and MFG depends on what NVIDIA thinks is better for gamers.

I don't know what you're talking about. My 7900XTX saved me 800 bucks versus a 4080 Super and runs everything I throw at it in 4K.

That's interesting, as my 4090 still doesn't hit 100+fps in 4k on a lot of the titles I'd like it to. To be fair, the 5090 doesn't look it will, either, which was the point. If AMD was making and spending RD $ to keep up with Nvidia at the top end, we might see what we traditionally saw gen over gen in performance increases. Instead, Nvidia has zero competition so they gave us this wet fart, the lowest gen v gen high end increase ever. Why should they push the envelope? AMD makes cards for budget pc builders and Nvidia can now charge $2k for bleeding edge performance.

This whole market sucks dick.

Any reputable reporting should be done at a resolution that rules out the results being CPU limited (hence 1080).

Yes, but also no. Everything should be pointing to the highest end visuals. Only plebs running 1080p and the results mean fuck all when we are looking towards past technology.

75% of people run 1080p or less. There’s no reason not to include it.

Except that once again, There is no X080+ card that is going to have issues running at that resolution so it's a retarded comparison to make.

i could see a future where games are all rendered in 1080p and upscaled to 4k because the tensor AI cores are really good at it.

not particularly a world I want to live in and we're nowhere near it for now but it solves a lot of problems for game devs like less work for artists/QA/devs, less bandwidth for game streaming, game sizes shrink, much easier to port games to nintendo/mobile, on and on.

if you're going to do that then the upscalar might as well just be a monitor component
