Good news for me is that my eyes are getting progressively worse as I age, so my 1080 is doing juuuuuuuuust fine.
Crazyily moded Skyrim is the only thing that seems to really make my system sometimes cry. I think it's more my Ryzen 5 3600 than the 6950XT. I also don't try to run ray tracing at ultra or anything either.

I don't think I have ever skipped two generations of video cards in decades. This will be the first time in a long time. My 3080ti is just fine for every single game I play at this point. Nothing is below 100 FPS. Plus I would need to do new build. No sense to add a 5000x card when my proc is a 5800x and RAM is DDR4.

Yea with the insane pricing on these I wont even consider upgrading until my 3080 can barely run shit.

I only play low requirement games anyways.

I have a TUF 3080 and will end up replacing it with with a 5080 or 90, but the primary reason is that I was an early adopter and my card only has 10 VRAM.

I dunno I've always done that. I went from a 570 to 1070 to 4090.

Probably not. The tessellation, equitant and subsequent Schwartz radius are all missing from these cards.

Given the windows 11 bullshit putting unreasonable hardware requirements to run the OS, probably not

I'm really tempted to snag a 4070 Super because my 6700XT is starting to age and I'm tired of AMDs Adrenalin UI being so shit. Plus, I want to be able to run Elden Ring in max 1440p quality with the DLC on the horizon. But, I'm also tempted to wait until specs/pricing become official on the 5xxx series.

He'll be able to play it in a browser with software rendering any day now.
who remembers turning off sound b/c onboard audio took up cpu cycles unless you had a dedicated soundcard like a soundblaster, still have an xfi and awe32 in storage

Are we getting dramatic over a 10% boost? That should be within the margin of your current PSU.

The 5070 is going to be hard for a lot of people to turn down price for performance wise if they skipped a gen.

I think it'll depend on VRAM. If The Jacket sticks with 12 GB again (and he will), the price/perf for me is very questionable, at least as a longer-term purchase. It's better than 8 GB, true, but 12 GB already feels marginal unless you're only playing 1080p.

If the TDP is going up 50w then you have to plan on significantly higher spike loads.

Also, if your gaming computer is protected with a UPS, loads like that can totally fuck with all but the chonkiest UPSes.

My 3080 does everything In need so far, however I plan on buying the PSVR2>>>PC adapter for some Cyberpunk, so I'll need me some frames. Probably need a PSU upgrade anyway, FF16 for some reason shuts down my PC hard randomly when zoning. /boggle

Have a 4090 now with a 13900 processor, upgraded from a 1080gtx. 60fps is my limit. On the 1080, even though I had access to 4k, I kept on chugging with 1080p and it was good with 60fps for games until around 2022 (no RTX and such of course). When I had to put things to medium to keep up and still get dips down to 40. When I bought my previous computer, it was nearly top of the line, and same with this. New standard is 4k 60. Currently it can keep way higher frames in most games in 4k (cyberpunk not by much, has 80.66 fps on average doing the benchmark, with everything set to max at 4k with DLSS quality), but doubt I'll need any upgrades for the next few gens (hopefully). I'm interested in seeing the size of the next gen tough, if it keeps getting bigger. Current one is like the size of 2.5 PSUs. EVGA or somesuch.
