Uh... The slightly over mid-range 3080 that you currently own didn't fall under $1000 average until 18 months after it launched.
Right but when I bought it, and I probably paid around 1k for it, I don't think it was considered a midrange card, my point was what we were paying for a top of the line card a few years back gets us a midrange card nowadays. I'm just crying old man tears longing for days of yore when shit wasn't so expensive, don't mind me. First world problems, all that nonsense...

It's whatever your definition of mid-range is. I don't think it's anything from current Gen but instead probably something like a 3080 right now

Perspectives are really fucked up on what's actually needed.

Mine is coming from Cali instead of Memphis which is 2 hours down the dang road. Should have gone for a Hellhound instead and it would be here.

My 3080 might have been fine and maybe it was everything around it that was old and needs to be replaced? Fuck if I know but if I'm going to upgrade I figure I might as well replace everything. I'm going to keep the old 3080 pc and use it for turbotax.

I still have an i7-2600k and nvidia 770 GTX for a desktop. The "gaming" laptop i have is only an i5-12500 with a 3060. Pretty sure I'm going to head up to north jersey and hit the microcenter and build an AMD system.

I am trying to find how much an upgrade 9070 XT is to a 3080ti. Why is every "comparison" site I see all over the place here?

12V-2x6 Power Connector Cooks At Over 150°C With A "Water-Cooled" NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090

c.jpg

We have seen before how the PSU side was more prone to higher temperatures than on the GPU side and this is exactly what Andreas Schilling showed in his test. The test setup used the Inno3D GeForce RTX 5090 iChill Frostbite edition, with a water block installed for great cooling. Even though the GPU is quite decent in thermal performance, most of the load is borne by the 16-pin power connectors and the cable itself.

Andreas reported that after some time, the 16-pin power connector and cable reached over 150°C. This was under full load when the GeForce RTX 5090 reached a power consumption of 600W. This is the first time we have heard of a 12V-2x6 connector reaching such an insanely high temperature, which would easily cause melting on both the wires and connectors on both sides. However, Andreas was lucky as his cable did not melt.

We saw previously that the 12VHPWR reached 150°C on the PSU side, but this might be the first time for a 12V-2x6 cable. The 16-pin power connector has several flaws in the design, allowing it to bear all the load on a single pin if all other pins aren't connected properly. This can easily lead to the melting of the connector and the wire/wires carrying the entire load in a couple of minutes or seconds once the GPU reaches 100% usage.

So 4090 is going to hold its current resell value until the next gen. I figured it'd only hold value until supply caught up on the 5 series, but apparently NVidia had other plans.

Man that video was great. The straight gibberish these billion dollar companies are putting for their card advertisements pages just makes you question if they are using AI to do it or some intern who happens to be high on some weed.
