binged through the series last few days, very enjoyable. Honestly one of only two shows in 2024 I'd say were watching week to week instead of binge watching - Shogun and The Penguin.
I don't rate it (yet?) as high as The Wire or Andor or Sopranos, mostly cuz of run time/only 1 season but also the cast feels a bit too small. I only really got to know The Penguin, Sofia, and a bit of Victor and Mom. I don't really feel like the other characters got much depth or time. Which is fine, but that does make it a less challenging show to execute/praise.
Great ending all around though, I honestly did not expect any of it but it totally makes sense from what we've seen in the previous 7 episodes. Thats the best kind of writing, when something happens that shocks you but you also acknowledge its extremely in line with what the writers have developed.
Its so insane this is the dude playing Penguin. If you haven't watched it, 100% recommend go immediately and watch Banshees of Inishirin and The Gentlemen, he always has such interesting roles
