dude seriously?

That accent is awful.
And you really said that in a movie with Tom/Loki in it. nevermind RDJ as Stark.

Liked the movie though. Space battles were nice. A bit too much quick cuts in fight scenes. The first fight absolutely. couldnt see shit. The end fight... not as bad. but at the same time, whoever greenlit the portal idea should have been kicked in the balls. that is up there with "FF:spirits within" and invisible monsters as bad guys. its just a stupid concept to put to film. you are intentionally making a fight scene where the audience has no idea whats going on. why would you do that? LIke 5 minutes of Mjollnir just flying around because IT can't figure out which way to go.
Also dragged down by Natalie portman again. Need to dump her and focus on Sif.
RDJ as Tony Stark is dogshit. It's RDJ playing RDJ who's name happens to be Tony Stark in this movie.

Loki is the best character in these films. Everyone else is just a pacing mechanism so we don't OD on Loki's awesomeness.

Just saw it. Good movie through and through. Good pacing. Comic relief wasn't overdone and was implanted at appropriate moments.

It was almost as if the actors weren't comfortable with the setting and characters in Thor: 1, but now are after two movies
The same goes with budgeting. Thor and Avengers were hits, so this got a bigger budget and better effects.

Asgard looked kind of lame before. Not so now.
The effects and art assets were great.

Portals borderline irksome, but could have been way worse. Nothing prickled. Nothing went too far. I dislike the chick intern, but she was kept in check.

I liked the portal fight because I hadn't seen much of it before.

Only thing I wish it had was more fighting in areas outside of Midgard. I only remember seeing midgard, Vanaheim, Jotunheim and hellhole the dark elves came out of.

I'm kinda surprised no one complained about elven Tie-Fighters and shit. It doesn't bother me really, but I'm sure the layman is going to be like "BUT MEDIEVAL VIKING THINGS DONT HAZ GUNSHIPS!!!"

This was one of my criticisms of the first movie, too. It's been a while since I've seen it, but if I remember correctly we didn't really see Thor fighting much "non-Asgardian-esque" stuff in that, either.

What I mean is that we don't really get to see just how insanely powerful Thor is because he's always fighting stuff that's pretty much on his level or so alien to us (as humans) that we can't judge the power level. I would love for a scene of Thor smashing apart a tank or something, just to show his power in a way that can be easily measured for people who aren't familiar with the character.

I think the writers did a great job mitigating that kind of idiocy by having Natalie Portman's character point out how the "magic" of Asgard was nothing more than super high technology.

I dunno you get a good idea of his strength when he fought the Hulk in Avengers. Sure he was losing but he didn't get squashed.

It gets better once you leave Midgard.

I liked it a lot. Much better than the first one. Good balance between story and action, good acting and didn't treat the audience like idiots.

Can we give a brief mention to how awesome Chuck was in this movie? I had no clue it was him until the end credits.

I did mention that as one of the highlights, since I am apparently the only person in the universe that didn't think this movie was awesome (I did still like it, just not as much as a lot of others). If he was in the first movie, I didn't realize it. (Ah, I just checked IMDB, and he wasn't. It was fucking Charming from Once Upon A Time no less. Chuck was vastly more entertaining.)

All of these positive reviews have at least made me curious to watch it again when it comes out on bluray to see if maybe I was just in the wrong mood or something. Movies typically don't get universally positive reviews on this forum. Could I be wrong?! Could my whole life be a lie? Inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah the theatre I was in couldn't give a shit when Thor's mum died but everyone was upset when Loki 'died'. Meanwhile all the nerds were shaking their head and rolling their eyes at the idea that Loki would die like a bitch from a frontal attack. I'm really happy with the way they portrayed Loki in the film for all the reasons stated above, but above that it was good to see Thor and Loki working together like the yin and the yang they are. Putting Loki as the main antagonist in Thor III would probably annoy a lot of people because he's had so much screen time already, but I wouldn't mind it. I'd still prefer he plays the background support for Thor though.
I was the opposite, although I can understand why an audience might react differently. Freya's death was unexpected to me, and it was clear from her fight with the Dark Elf that she was pretty badass. I was stunned they'd go as far as to kill Thor's Mom who even though she's not a main character per say, wasn't a throwaway character. Loki on the other hand, we never really had any doubt that Loki was faking it so getting upset about it would have been weird to me.

...since I am apparently the only person in the universe that didn't think this movie was awesome (I did still like it, just not as much as a lot of others).
I thought both movies were rubbish, the second only less so.

The first movie should have opened with a flashback to Odin and his dwarves creating Mjolnir; informing the audience of how insane Mjolnir is goes a long way towards explaining Thor. Let's say something like the first LoTR intro about the ring, only this time, with the goddamned hammer. After that, everything should have revolved around Asgard not meddling in the affairs of Man (Midgard). Show how resolute Odin is against any intervention, with cuts to Thor being Thor (beating on Galactus-like things, Dynasty Warrior beat downs, drinking, being the baddest motherfucker alive, etc). You then balance that with the rising of events on Earth that eventually reaches Asgard's doorstep. Add in Portman heading the "science" behind why the problem is tied to Asgard's inaction, and how they can fix it. Odin decides against it, Thor is too concerned with being Thor, which leaves Loki open to playing the "hero". Bad things happen (Loki being Loki) which forces Odin's hand, but he wants Thor to take the lead, which he does not want to do. Add in some scenes with Thor seeing that being an eternal warrior bro isn't his end game and comes to the rescue right at the end. Over.

In its place, we get a severely neutered Thor playing the bumbling human ripped bro for Portman and Denning to fawn over. And a shitty ass, thin ass plot. And shitty Odin. The only saving grace was, and still is, Heimdall; Elba manhandles what little screen time he gets.

I don't remember anyone addressing this point about the ending:
Where is Odin?
That is the cliff hanger.

Anyone else tackle the idea that the Dark Elves, who are race from before the universe was formed (WTF) who want the universe to go back to the time of darkness, HAVE BIG FUCKING LIGHTS ALL OVER THIER SPACE SHIP? So they hate light, except when they need it to see where they are flying? Maybe I missed something about their backstory but its pretty dumb.

that isn't really the writers, that's the basis behind the technology in Asgard in the comic books as well.

Think about it, if there were no lights on the ship, in space, how would the viewer see it?!

Yeah, true, I was just referring to the fact that the movie went out of its way to show it via Natalie Portman's dialogue when she was being examined by the Asgardians. It's the sort of thing that could easily have been glossed over, so I liked how they specifically pointed it out.

I don't remember anyone addressing this point about the ending:
I imagine it was left vague on purpose.

One person I saw it with assumed Loki killed him, and another assumed Loki snuck in and Odin was off doing something else. Plus Anthony Hopkins is getting up there in age, if he croaks before Thor 3 they can easily write him out now!
