On the browser front, I switched to chrome for home/work about a month ago because Firefox doesn't play nicely with crucible (by atlassian), although crucible is sort of a piece of shit in general. Tangent: I sometimes have 15+ tabs open depending on my degree of multitasking- I'd love to learn about a plugin that lets me select a set of tabs, cache and close them as an "object" I can open up later. In fact, if that doesn't exist, it may be a cool project. Bookmark + cache a session. Anyway, I've been having issues with flash crashing/gif loading on this forum as well. It's pretty fuggin annoying.

I haven't worked with windows 8 but I'm considering upgrading because it sounds like my workflow won't change much without start. I almost never use the start menu except to shutdown or type to search for an application/executable. At home I pin my games there but it sounds like I could do all that with metro. I don't have any performance issues with my spec but I'd love a faster OS.

Try:https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...cpbko?hl=en-GB

I use it, it works pretty well. You can edit saved sessions and remove tabs you don't care about, restore them to an existing (or new) window, manage multiple saved windows within a single session, etc.

Amazing how many people still use XP.

http://bgr.com/2013/01/02/windows-8-...ercent-279290/

According to new data from NetMarketShare, 1.72% of all desktop computers in December 2012 used Windows 8, up from less than 1% in November. Of course we won't have a real measure of Windows 8's adoption rate until we see the January numbers since by that time many people will have started using the shiny new Windows 8 laptops they got for Christmas. Overall NetMarketShare found that Windows 7 was still the most widely used operating system in the world, accounting for more than 45% of all desktops used in December, while Windows XP finished a close second with 39%. All versions of Apple's (AAPL) OS X accounted for 7.1% of all desktops in December, a slight decrease from the 7.3% share that OS X posted in November.

Still do at my office. We have no need of anything newer, really. Only reason I'm going to upgrade all the workstations in the next month or two is simply because half of them run like shit now and I may as well upgrade as opposed to doing a fresh install of XP, and computers are cheap anyways.

Even security wise my brother is the only person in the office who manages to regularly infect his computer with god knows what.

I bought Windows 8 64-bit OEM for a new PC I'm building. Unfortunately I don't have an optical drive and the OEM CD Key I have won't allow me to download the ISO of the retail version from the Microsoft site. Any suggestions where I might find the legitimate ISO (I really want to avoid sketchy pirated software for my OS which is why I purchased the legit version in the first place) so I can install it from USB?

Just check the md5 to make sure the shit you've downloaded is unmodified. Search torrents for "untouched" versions. I'd link you from ipt but it seems it's down atm.

Kinda nice, Chrome updated so now there's a relaunch menu item that will move you to/from the App / Desktop versions.

Haven't messed with this because the metro UI doesn't bother me and I wouldn't put this on my tablet, but here's a FREE start menu alternative. Even has an app store of desktop apps. Wife hates the new UI, probably put this on her desktop and laptop.

That looks very promising as a Start Menu alternative. I think I'm gonna give that a try today.

Windows 8 is extremely terrible, in my opinion, quite dumbed down. Just keep with Windows 7, it is extravagantly better.

I don't even get this statement. Windows 8 IS Windows 7 with a few different bugs and a start screen instead of a menu.

Why do people keep making mountains out of mole hills?

Some people are just terribly afraid of change.

I tried Win8, though only for about a week. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but it wasn't enough to make me want to upgrade from 7. I find myself preferring Linux Mint to Win8.
