Like I said, you can hate all of them. You don't have to pick sides.

Fuck the execs, fuck the studios, fuck the actors, fuck the writers. They all suck.
Ari Emanuel is actually extremely fucking smart and very based for someone whose :emoji_nose:brother:emoji_nose: is Rham.

Ruffalo has Sound of Freedom on his mind when he makes these comments. His indie Trans-man-fleeing-red-state-for-abortion drama is not likely to garner the same grassroots groundswell.

I would love for him and his ilk to all try it so we can watch them rage on Threads as they go broke, wondering why all their 'inspired' indie movies are losing them tens of millions per pop.

sag rules are indie movies have a budget under $2m so it wouldn't really work, since people like him expect that as a minimum of their own salary

I'm not really following this story too closely but I'd be totally supportive of a producer taking a writers-first strategy on producing new tv/movies. Whenever I read about the strike I get the sense that producers are cutting costs on writing so severely and isolating writers that it's impossible for good writing to be delivered on so many movies.

There's so much $$$ in Hollywood that I'm kinda surprised more producers (or rich actors becoming producers...) aren't trying to get WGA waivers. Or maybe they are and I'm too out of the loop to know.

Ruffulo sounds like every other socialist.

"C'mon man, we'll share all the profits. It'll be a new utopian system!"

Meanwhile whoever they put in charge of it just ends up as a new studio exec while everyone gets fucked again eventually.

The funny thing is, money is just the talking point for the sign boards, cause its something people understand. The AMPTP could solve the money the writers and actors are asking for with a rounding error on the CEOs salaries (it was like a 2% paycut for the top 10 paid CEOs would cover all the financial demands of both guilds, and then some)

The studios dont want to budge on AI, and they dont want to budge on giving away streaming numbers like they used to have to for network TV. They want everything to be in the red on paper and never share a residual again.

Also, I think if it were up to everyone but those Top 10 CEOs (and Im willing to bet even less than those 10), they already would have given the WGA and SAG everything they wanted and gotten back to work.

They also want to continue to pay residuals for streamers based on a contract from 1988 for direct-to-video movies.

Don't pay residuals. You are not owed in perpetuity. Also don't let the studios use AI. Everyone is miserable and everyone is happy.

Turn them into wage slaves like the rest of us. Fuck em.

This is dumb logic. If the studios can make infinite copies of your work and continue to sell it forever, you should continue to get your cut forever, no matter how small and stupid that cut is.

Copyright for movies and TV is 70 years. If copyrights were a lot shorter, the "no residuals" idea would make more sense.

No. They were paid to act. They received their compensation.

Wrong. This is not how it is in every occupation. Like 40-80% of employees at most companies are dead weight. 20% produce 80% of the value, this is measurable and consistent across most industries. Pareto principle - Wikipedia

The dead weight at most companies get paid almost as much as the 20% who actually produce the valuable work.

It's not how it is in film and tv either. Remember what a big deal it was for RDJ to get a cut of the Avengers? Or Jackson for LOTR? Neither studio was happy paying that out because it was so successful.

Davinici's family doesn't get a cut every time someone sees one of his works.

The old TV perpetuity thing is over and done with. The company owns that product and can do what ever it wants with it. Get more pay for your work up front and or shut the fuck up about forever money.
